St John the Baptist, Brinklow

Broad Street
Brinklow
CV23 0LR

This church, in the Revel Group, towers over the high street. There is a steep climb up to the altar very like the ones found at Berkswell and Burton Dassett. Fragments of medieval glass depicting a peacock can be found in the windows. Under the carpet in front of the altar are wooden traps under which can be found tombs of the vicar who was banished by Cromwell and re-instated by Charles II. The churchyard plan can be found in the porch and among the interesting graves is one of Thomas Bolton, a deaf and dumb woodcutter who served his community so well that they honoured him in stone, depicting the tools of his trade, an axe, a tree trunk and a gauntlet.

Other churches in this group featured on this site are Churchover and Monks Kirby.
