Full of high oak box pews and a gallery at the west end this church is the final resting place of Alice Leigh, a woman abandoned by her husband Sir Robert Dudley who fled to Italy with a young lady disguised as a page boy. She was granted her husbands estates in his absence. Her grandmother, another Alice, was a true benefactress of the village and the almshouses were her gift to the community.
