St John Baptist, Coventry

Fleet Street
Coventry
CV1 3AY

This church, originally built in the 1300s on land given by Queen Isabella, was used to imprison Scottish Royalist soldiers after the Battle of Preston in 1648, during the Civil War. The saying sent to Coventry, stems from the hostile reception given to the soldiers by the local people. Despite being remodelled by the great Gilbert Scott the church has a reputation for not having a single perfect rectangle or true right angle in its construction and no two walls are said to be parallel.

The church is in frequent use for arts and entertainment, featuring all sorts of music from classical & choral, to gigs, working in partnership with Tin Angeland Taylor John's House.
